ENERGY RECOVERY SYSTEMS
HI-PANEX Air-to-Air Heat Recovery Wheels by SEIBU GIKEN

Three key issues that building designers and engineers have to address are the Environment, Indoor Air Quality and Energy Conservation. Engineers are also expected to balance these three issues, in order to achieve and sustain the economic benefit and viability of their design.

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning (ASHRAE) standard 62-2001 specifies minimum ventilation rates for IAQ in 100 different indoor spaces, including hospitals, public buildings and commercial buildings. This set of guidelines prescribes the supply rates of acceptable outdoor air quality to replace acceptable rates of indoor air quality, with the benefit of removing human bioeffluents and other contaminants. (Refer to www.ashrae.org for more information).

Heat exchangers are now commonly used to recover heating or cooling energy when importing fresh, clean outside air into a building. Seibu Giken advanced the technology further with the successful development of the new Hi-Panex Total Heat Recovery Wheel (HRW).

Seibu Giken's range of Hi-Panex air-to-air Energy Recovery Wheels is the most effective and practical method of introducing fresh outdoor air into a confined gathering area. When used in summer conditions, hot outdoor air can be introduced into a building and yet do not impose a heavy load on the air conditioning system and its electrical operating costs. This hot outside air is immediately reduced in temperature and the air conditioning load is effectively reduced, thus conserving up to energy

The HI-PANEX HRW is the latest state-of-the-art technology applied in energy recovery wheels. Unlike conventional rotors that use silica gel affixed to aluminum sheets, the Seibu Giken HI-PANEX HRW uses a technology to coat Ion Exchange Resins on the aluminum sheet in a rotor. This substrate is further coated with a layer of Anti-Bacteria and Anti-Mould agent which prevents propagation and survival of bacteria and mould.

This Ion Power HRW produces even cleaner, more energy-saving and comfortable air-conditioning.

Hi-Panex , total heat exchanger cassette is illustrated in the above figure. Hi-Panex rotor is rotated slowly at about 16 r.p.m. in the direction of the arrow. The separator divided the rotor into the exhaust(R>EA) and the supply(OA>SA)-zones. In other words, supply and exhaust air flow alternately through the rotor in opposite direction. Almost all the total heat passing through the exhaust zone is absorbed into the rotor element. The rotor accumulated with heat is rotated half a turn to transfer the total-energy to the air of the supply zone on the other side. Thus, the outdoor air(OA) is taken to the supply air(SA) and the return air(RA) is exhausted to the exhaust air(EA) while the total heat(temperature and humidity) energy is fully transferred to the fresh outdoor air(OA). It can be said, therefore, that the function of this heat exchanger is to supply the fresh air after bringing it close to the room air condition when there is a difference in temperature and/or humidity, and thus save energy.

Properties of the Seibu Giken HI-PANEX Heat Recovery Wheel
Excellent corrosion resistance
Ceramic fibre paper as basic materials is prepared for anti-corrosive and anti-salt applications. Aluminum sets are also treated to be anti-corrosive.

Excellent effect in Odor Transfer Prevention
When the total heat exchanger is operated, a very small quantity of ammonia gas in the building (from toilet, etc.) passes through the rotor and could be adsorbed with the rotor, and cross-contaminates. In order to prevent this, we are employing a special adsorbent which can only adsorb moisture and pass alkaline gas through into the atmosphere. So the cross-contamination of ammonia gas in the rotor can be completely prevented (Pat.Pend.)

Anti-Germ and Mold-Proof Effect
The Anti-Germ and anti-mold agents cover the whole surface of the honeycomb rotor. They are thermally and chemically stable and durable. As they dissolve little in water, the rotor can be washed with water. The anti-bacteria and anti-mold property prevents the propagation and survival of bacteria and mold when they directly touch the surface of the honeycomb. This eliminates cross contamination associated with other rotors in the market.

Excellent Energy Saving
The rotor rotating in a counter-flow method produces high efficiency for energy recovery. Unlike other makes, the Hi-Panex does not require a ‘purge' sector which enables it to achieve an even higher total energy recovery in both sensible and latent energy.

Simple and Easy maintenance
The rotor can be cleaned by vacuum, blower and even washed with water or mild detergent after continuous usage over a long period of time. The Hi-Panex is constructed with thoughtful consideration for easy periodic checking.

Wide range of models
To suit you individual applications, Seibu Giken's Hi-Panex offer a wide range of airflow capacities.
Airflow capacity from 500 CMH to 100,000 CMH.
